Why
does the Bible make no mention of dinosaurs?
The
Bible makes no mention of many specific animals, i.e.: Elephants, Hippopotamus,
Rhinoceros, Apes, etc. I don't think we can assume anything very meaningful
from that. Dinosaurs are simply one of many specific animals not mentioned by
name. As His second act of creation God created all animals. "God created
great whales, and every living creature that moveth." Notice that the
first animals mentioned are "great whales." This is the Hebrew word "tannin,"
which, in many translations is "great sea monsters." It is significant to note that this same word
is frequently translated "dragon." Evidently the term includes all
large sea-creatures, even the monsters of the past that are now extinct. Frequent
references to dragons in the Bible, as well as early records and traditions of
many past nations, cannot be shrugged off as mere fairy tales. Most probably
they represent memories of dinosaurs handed down by tribal ancestors who
encountered them before they became extinct. Some Christians believe the
behemoth referred to in Job 40:15-24
is actually a dinosaur. Though not mentioned by name, God created the dinosaur.
