QUESTION:

How can three "persons" be in one God?

I think most theologians would agree that the word "person" is not a perfect expression of what the Bible is attempting to communicate. But, it’s the most correct expressive word we have. Some believe the word tends to distract from the unity of the Trinity. We know that in God there are not separate individuals as we understand separate individuals. Matthew, Mark and Luke, for example, being separate individuals have different characteristics. Within the Godhead the "persons," the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit have the same characteristics but personal self-distinctions. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are "persons" in the sense that each has the personal attributes of mind, emotions, and will, and each of the three is aware of the others, speaks to the others, and carries on a loving relationship with the others. We must accept God's revelation to us that He is triune in nature and that He has infinite perfections. With our finite minds we cannot fully understand everything about God.  Our God is an awesome God. Celebrate His birthday!
